We are perhaps doing a variation on the Ashes to Go theme. We will have an Ash Wednesday Service with ashes offered following our normal meeting/discussion time. Jesus on Tap is a group for believers, questioners, non-believers, and everyone in between. We come together to discuss issues of faith, religion, theology, and spirituality. We are open to and welcoming of all people, beliefs, non-beliefs, and faith traditions. The service will be offered upstairs at the Gray Lady in downtown Tuscaloosa. It will begin about 8 p.m. All are welcome to join us for the discussion, and all are welcome to join us for the service following. All are just simply welcome.

Where and when will you offer Ashes to Go?
In the Loving Kindness Room — 1-2pm and 9-10pm

Comments
This is a first. From the York Hospital Newsletter:
Chaplain Sudie Blanchard, who provides spiritual care at York Hospital, will be offering ashes to staff, patients and their families on Ash Wednesday, February 13. She will carry them with her as she visits patients in the morning. She will also be in the Loving Kindness Room from 1p–2p and 9p–10p offering ashes to all those whose schedules or family commitments make it hard to stop and pray with others in church that day.
Why ashes? Ashes have symbolized penitence from ancient times. In the Middle Ages, it became the custom for Christians to begin the season of Lent—the 40 day period of reflection that comes before Easter—by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. The reminder that we are mortal turns our attention to the creative power of God, and
God’s ability to heal the brokenness in our lives when we offer that brokenness to God. That turning—and returning—to God is the work of Lent.
Why ashes at York Hospital? Because the reminder of our need for forgiveness and healing really shouldn’t be confined to a church building. We need that reminder even more when we are in the midst of the stress of our daily lives! The ashes remind us of our need for God. So, next Wednesday, take a few minutes of your day and get your ashes on. The short prayer and the sentence read when the ashes are imposed take less than a minute. It will be a moment well spent.
